A failing filter harness can set codes 17 and 18. It can cause stalling after startup, hesitation and occasional "fish byte" missfire ( one solid miss that commonly occurs at medium throttle). It is best to not take chances with the old filter harness - replace this with the updated unit. The filter harness plugs into the optic sensor at the top-rear of the fuel injection pump. It is about 7" long, connecting between the optic sensor and the main engine harness.
